Joey Interrante playing the BanJoey

Drummer. Inventor. Tampa Bay.

He built the only one.

Joey Interrante took a banjo shell, a bass pedal, a cymbal, and snare wires and made something the world had never heard. He carries it to every gig alone, sets it up in 20 minutes, and plays a full rhythm section by himself.

What is the BanJoey

He needed a sound that didn't exist anywhere, so he went and made it.

The BanJoey is a banjo shell mounted on a custom box, driven by a bass pedal, topped with a cymbal, and fitted with snare wires underneath. One instrument. One person. A full rhythm section. Joey designed it, put it together by hand, and has been performing on it ever since.

The name came from his bandmate Gale Trippsmith, who introduced him onstage one night and didn't know what to call the thing. She said "this is Joey playing a BanJoey" and it stuck. There is still only one in the world.

About Joey

A lifelong drummer who still makes his own gear.

Joey Interrante is a professional drummer based in Tampa Bay. He performs regularly across Florida with artists including Gale Trippsmith and the Kid Royal Band, records remote drum tracks through Hip Pocket Studios, and still carries his own gear to every single gig.

The BanJoey came from a simple frustration: nothing on the market did what he needed. So he designed it, put it together by hand, refined it over years of live performance, and has been turning heads with it ever since.
